LSF UK is a charity that was set up in 2005 as an associate body to LSF Belgium, an international organization that provide training and expertise in the repair and maintenance of the violin family in areas where no local services are available. It is clear that many talented musical children lack properly maintained instruments and bows and we recognize that music has an important role in fostering social development and in improving the life-chances of young people; especially in countries where there is political or economic difficulty.
Since 2008, we have undertaken seven missions in Haiti, Ecuador, Afghanistan and Uganda : our work has mainly consisted of 2-3 week missions of teaching at a partner music school or music camp.
We constantly call for donations, either financial or equipment (tools, fittings strings etc… ) sourced from individuals and contacts within the violin trade and then donated to the partner schools that we work with during our missions.
Occasionally, instruments are provided as well but our overriding aim is to teach repair and maintenance and encourage self-sufficiency. We operate on a totally voluntary basis with no overheads.
